COMMUNITY HEALTH INSURANCE ASSOCIATIONS URGE SUPREME COURT TO PROTECT THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
WASHINGTON—Margaret A. Murray, Chief Executive Officer of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) and Ceci Connolly, President and CEO of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP), made the following statements on a joint amicus curiae brief filed by the two associations in the matter of California vs. Texas, the case seeking to invalidate the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in its entirety.
The brief notes, in part, that invalidating the ACA “would create chaos, strip health insurance from millions of Americans, and strain governmental health and welfare programs in the midst of an unprecedented public health crisis facing the nation.”
Margaret A. Murray, CEO, Association for Community Affiliated Plans:
“Millions of Americans rely on the Affordable Care Act for access to comprehensive health care coverage. Rolling back its protections would be catastrophic for consumers, placing even more pressure on a health care system already fighting a public health emergency. Now more than ever, we need access to quality, affordable coverage. In ten years, the ACA has survived multiple attempts to gut its reforms– we’re confident it will withstand this challenge.”
Ceci Connolly, President and CEO, Alliance of Community Health Plans:
“Now more than ever, access to top-quality coverage and care is vital to the health and well-being of individuals and families across the country. Repealing the ACA would leave millions of Americans uninsured in the midst of a public health pandemic and cause total chaos as people try to navigate and secure coverage in this crisis. Individuals and families nationwide shouldn’t have to question their health care benefits when they need them most. ACHP members are committed to minimizing coverage disruptions in their communities and ensuring continued access to health benefits during this unprecedented time.”
The brief, prepared by attorneys at Crowell & Moring LLP, is available in its entirety here.
