STATEMENT OF ACAP CEO MARGARET A. MURRAY ON RACIAL INJUSTICE
WASHINGTON—ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray today released the following statement on recent unrest throughout the United States stemming from the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers.
“George Floyd’s murder is a tragic event that has sparked meaningful conversations about the ways we can—and must—do better. Those conversations, hopefully, will lead to tangible action and meaningful change.
“The protests that followed have helped to shine a light on the inequities that pervade nearly every aspect of the lives of African-Americans and other people of color – it goes beyond policing to disparities in health care, hiring practices, mortgage lending, education and more.
“ACAP-member Safety Net Health Plans are proudly dedicated to resolving inequities in the health care system—an organization whose vision is a country with accessible, affordable, high-quality care for everyone.
“The protests have focused attention on the fact that fighting for a strong safety net is a good start, but it’s not enough. ACAP will work diligently and purposefully to shine a light on racial disparities in health care, and highlight meaningful efforts to eliminate them.”
