ACAP 2025 CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS RECOGNIZE SENATOR LISA MURKOWSKI, REPRESENTATIVE KATHY CASTOR
WASHINGTON—Today, the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) recognized Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Representative Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) with its 2025 Congressional Leadership Awards. Both were honored for their years-long support of efforts aimed at making health care more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans.
Sen. Murkowski was honored for her steadfast support of Medicaid expansion and the continuation of the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced advance premium tax credits, which have made health care more affordable to millions of Americans by assuring access to plans with low or zero-dollar premiums based on people’s incomes.
Rep. Castor was recognized for her fight to ensure continuous coverage for children in Medicaid and CHIP and for her tireless efforts to protect consumers from low-value short-term, limited duration insurance (STLDI) plans. In the last Congress, Rep. Castor introduced The Keep Kids Covered Act (H.R. 9688) to ensure continuous coverage for children until age 6 and require continuous 24-month enrollment periods for children up to age 19 – an effort she has long championed.
“We’re delighted to honor Senator Murkowski and Representative Castor for their track records of prioritizing the health and well-being of people nationwide,” said ACAP CEO Margaret A. Murray. “Enhanced premium tax credits have made Marketplace coverage affordable for millions, while Medicaid expansion improves health, reduces financial hardship, and strengthens communities. These measures help millions get the care they need and deserve. We must not turn back the clock, but instead build on these gains.”
“We’re proud to honor both Senator Murkowski and Representative Castor for their leadership.”
The award was presented at ACAP’s 2025 February Congressional Fly-In in Washington, D.C.
