What We’re Looking For
Trillium Health Resources has a career opening for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Team at Trillium. This position has a key role planning, guiding, and directing financial decisions for Trillium. Additionally, this role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and oversees two major business functions which include Finance and Medical Economics. The CFO directs, monitors, and contributes to the short and long-term priorities of the organization. By integrating the strategy, priorities, resources, and operations of those areas, the CFO drives Trillium toward short and long-term sustainable improvement of the health for members covered by Trillium.
On a typical day, you might:
- Work on strategic planning and implementation of work required to meet all DHHS and accreditation requirements.
- Ensures unit goals and objectives are being met and are in alignment with Trillium’s strategy.
- Engage in audit activities, budget planning and oversight.
- Work to develop & implement new programs and initiatives that will assist Trillium Health Resources in attaining goals and address federal, state or other regulations and/or requirements.

Job Summary – CFO (Executive Vice President)
This position serves as Trillium’s CFO and reports directly to the CEO and oversees two major business functions which include Finance and Medical Economics. This Executive Vice President (EVP) directs, monitors, and contributes to the short and long-term priorities of the organization. By integrating the strategy, priorities, resources, and operations of those areas, the EVP drives Trillium toward short and long-term sustainable improvement of the health for members covered by Trillium. This position serves as a member of Trillium’s Executive Team.
Description of Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Essential Functions describe the job duties that must be performed to achieve the important end results for which the job exists
- Oversight of Finance and Medical Economics departments.
- Responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of work required in the above departments to meet all DHHS and accreditation requirements.
- Ensures unit goals and objectives are being met and are in alignment with Trillium’s strategy.
- Responsible for accounting and finance operations including financial audit activities and budget planning and oversight.
- Oversee the development & implementation of new programs and initiatives required in departments. Collaborates with other staff to ensure successful program design, execution, reporting, and sustainability of new initiatives.
- Works collaboratively to ensure external messaging is aligned to meet Trillium’s objectives.
- Responsible for assisting the CEO in the ongoing development and implementation of Trillium projects.
- Plans and develops programs or projects that will assist Trillium Health Resources in attaining goals or that address federal, state or other regulations and/or requirements. Supervise current programs or projects as required. May conduct research or needs assessments or attend training programs to assess opportunities for Trillium Health Resources. May assist with implementation of same.
- Reviews and analyzes reports and data to assess effectiveness and efficiencies of programs and efficient resource allocation.
- Ensures Trillium meets all contractually-required metrics assigned to functions under the supervision of the EVP.
- Works collaboratively with other areas of Trillium not under the EVP’s supervision to achieve Trillium enterprise goals.
- Recommends hiring of staff for department, oversees that staff are oriented and trained, evaluates staff and may provide disciplinary recommendations as required.
- Continually assess organizational needs for department to assure staff are productive and resources are efficiently allocated.
- Represents Trillium Health Resources by involvement in state, regional, community programs and inter-agency conference and meetings. May be required to make presentations to the Board. Cultivates and maintains effective relationships with agency personnel, county and state officials and the general public.
- Identifies systemic administrative and management problems within the organization and assists in solving issues to ensure Trillium Health Resources is meeting the needs of individuals served and other constituents. Establishes necessary procedures and controls.
- Ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures, accreditation, county and DHHS contractual requirements for work units for which position has oversight.
- Keep current on market drivers related to the managed care, risk and value based care, population health, social determinants and other key areas of need for future development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance and must include 18 semester hours of accounting coursework from an appropriately accredited institution.
Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience and financial management to include six (6) years of supervisory experience and four (4) years of experience in a managed care health plan setting.
License/Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must reside in NC to be considered for remote status. Must be able to travel to a Trillium office location and within catchment as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of accounting and financial rules required. Knowledge of tools used for financial operations. Knowledge of managed care systems including but not limited to federal, state and local programs. Project Management, planning, stakeholder engagement skills necessary. Computer skills required
Decision Making/Consequences of Errors: Errors in administrative judgment can negatively affect the financial viability, quality of care and the success of the organization. Accuracy is crucial and the consequences of errors include inaccurate records, miscommunication of essential information, and inefficient operation for the department and could cause liability to the Agency. Errors may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal, according to seriousness of errors
