Job Summary
The Business Development department identifies and cultivates market opportunities, implementing strategic initiatives to drive growth for Medicaid and other AmeriHealth Caritas products. Reporting to the Vice President of Business Development, the Director Business Development (the Market Leader) is responsible for leading cross-functional teams to develop and execute business development strategies to support business development and new strategic product initiatives. The Market Leader establishes and maintains strategic stakeholder relationships including but not limited to appropriate state and local government officials, C-level executives at hospital and health systems, ACOs, FQHCs, community behavioral health systems, public health departments, provider associations, coalitions, and community- based organizations. They also lead key growth initiatives and community investment activities.
Essential Functions
• Lead cross-functional teams and direct reports in the development and execution of business development strategies for assigned markets for Medicaid and other AmeriHealth Caritas products, including the development of business cases and proformas, oversight of persuasive and competitive proposal responses, and development of award analysis. Serve as a key strategic partner for business leaders throughout the organization and advise them on capabilities needed to win certain markets.
• Establish and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships, including but not limited to appropriate state and local government officials, C-level executives at hospital and health systems, ACOs, FQHCs, community behavioral health systems, public health departments, provider associations, coalitions, and community-based organizations; represent the company in various external meetings; negotiate various contracts as appropriate to advance business development strategies.
• Maintain an ongoing understanding of the healthcare landscape, especially the healthcare landscape in assigned markets.
• Collaborate with other Enterprise Growth leaders and Corporate Strategy to evaluate and recommend a multi-product and multi-year product pipeline.
• Review and approve content in Enterprise Growth standard reports and communication materials for assigned markets.
• Engage and communicate with internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to assess if current state enterprise-level capabilities are aligned with and can support enterprise growth strategy and multi-year plan.
• Provide direction and support for continuous improvement initiatives.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Health Systems Administration or Marketing (Required).
• Master’s Degree: Health Systems Administration or Business Administration (Preferred).
• 7 to 10 years of large account sales or business development experience, with at least 5 to 7 years of that experience in Medicaid Managed care or the public sector healthcare industry.
• Prior experience with “C Level” decision-makers in a variety of settings.
• Comprehensive knowledge of business development.
• Ability to influence at all levels in various forums.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills to bridge gaps between multiple parties.
• Politically astute.
• Track record for ownership and accountability of large-scale projects.
• Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
• Required to travel 25%-50% of the time.
