Systems Analyst V
Job Summary
As a member of the Business Intelligence Team, the Systems Analyst V is responsible for reporting, analyzing, and providing senior leadership with analytical data to support quality improvement and business decisions to meet Cook County Health (CCH)’s strategic goals. Using existing infrastructure, the incumbent will translate the reporting needs into Microsoft SQL stored procedures as well as view, present and interpret the results in a concise manner to support various business units, staff and CCH initiatives. The incumbent will prepare and interpret reports and statistical data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvement. Presentation of the results includes Microsoft Reporting tools and Microsoft Office Suite as ad-hoc reports, customized reports, and dashboards. Serves as subject matter expert.
Typical Duties
- Meets with stakeholders to understand business area and data needs.
- Documents specifications for Business Intelligence or IT reports, dashboards, and other outputs.
- Using Microsoft SQL, generates reports of a highly complex nature summarizing quality, operations, financial and other healthcare related data.
- Analyzes complex reports to identify trends to support strategic management decisions.
- Mentors junior staff members.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent with Nine (9) years of work experience creating reports using Microsoft SQL in a managed care or other healthcare environment
OR
Associate’s degree with seven (7) years of experience creating reports using Microsoft SQL in a managed care or other healthcare environment
OR
Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of work experience creating reports using Microsoft SQL in a managed care or other healthcare environment
- Highly proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Visio)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Health Computer Science or Management Information Systems
- Experience working with statistical tools (SAS, Stata, R)
- Experience using Microsoft Reporting/Business Intelligence tools
- Experience working with clinical and/or financial data (i.e., Cerner, Siemens)

- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft SQL, necessary to develop complex reports. Subject matter expert.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret reports/statistical data, identify trends and make recommendations for improvement to support strategic management decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written skills necessary to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner to a wide level of personnel.
- Excellent customer service skills with acceptable response times to phone calls, emails, and customer requests.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to mentor junior staff and foster collaboration among co-workers.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Access.
- Advanced mathematical skills necessary to work with statistical packages such as SAS, Stata and R.
- Attention to detail.
- Advanced expertise necessary to work with large and complex data bases and files.
- Ability to make sound judgments.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize projects and tasks.
